The Fool
 The Fool The number of this card is zero, which stands for the continuous cycle of life, birth and death. Symbolically, the Fool is forever newly born, and about to begin his search for the Holy Grail of spiritual enlightenment. He sets out on this perilous journey filled with hope, and believing that anything is possible. Astrologically, the Fool is an airy card linked with the planet Uranus. This planet governs independence, eccentricity and sudden flashes of intuition, freedom and inventiveness. It is also the planet of sudden changes, an association of which is more appropriate to 16 the Tower. However, the unorthodox and creative influence of Uranus can be a powerful tool for change, and the Fool is a card of new beginnings. The combined message of both planet and card suggests the kind of inspiration which springs from the subconscious, and which should not be ignored. The Fool represents the optimistic child within us all who has not yet been restricted by conventional beliefs. Because he has yet to learn the meaning of fear, self-consciousness or doubt, he is unafraid of adventure and insecurity. Interpretation Let go, take a risk and don't worry about what other people think. You are protected by your optimism and innocence, and however mad your plans may seem you are very much in tune with yourself. This is the start of an exciting journey, which may be mental, physical, spiritual or all three. Look to the surrounding cards for further illumination. When the Fool represents an individual, he or she is likely to have some noticeably child-like characteristics, or be about to behave in a spontaneous way. Someone unconventional could come into your life. Depending upon your own character, you may find this threatening or hugely enjoyable. Whatever your reaction, this person can show you how to throw the rulebook out of the window and take a fresh look at things. 'Lateral' thinking is the Fool's forte, and he could come up with some surprising solutions to your problems, or inspire you to have a brainstorming session yourself. In terms of health and general energy, the Fool denotes nervous tension, great but undisciplined mental energy, and unstable conditions of all kinds. Since the Fool is both male and female it can signal sexual ambivalence, or an unconventional sex life. It can refer to someone with a very variable libido; bisexuality or homosexuality. Reversed Here is a warning to look before you leap. This is not the time to take a risk, change your job, or trust anyone you don't know very well. You, or someone close, may be a gambler; the Fool counsels you to hold on to your money, for luck has temporarily deserted you. If you are beginning a romantic relationship, take it slowly. Your new lover may be thoughtless and flighty - wait a while before committing yourself. If you are already involved with someone, you may find it hard to pin the person down. You might want commitment, while he or she seems to need a great deal of freedom. Perhaps the person is younger than you, mentally or physically.
